QUIA MIRABILIA FECIT
Polychoral Venetian music between Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century

Polychoral Venetian music between Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century
This concert is titled after the last verse of Monteverdi’s motet Cantate Domino canticum novum: it exemplifies perfectly the Baroque splendour and magnificence of the works by ANDREA and GIOVANNI GABRIELI, CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI, FRANCESCO CAVALLI, which were heard in Saint Mark’s on the threshold between sixteenth and seventeenth century. During that period, Venetian music experienced one of its most splendid and exciting phases. Thanks to the intertwining of voices and instruments, grouped in “choirs” performing from various places of the architectural space, this repertoire becomes one of the most spectacular and fascinating expressions in the music of all times.
